2017 Kids’ Ocean Day

Join ILACSD on Thursday, May 18th from 8 AM to noon at South Mission Beach and help clean up your local beach while sending out a positive message of unity. ILACSD needs adult volunteers to help facilitate our Kids’ Ocean Day event. Be part of “the big picture” — volunteers will join together to form a message of sustainability and a photographer will snap pictures.

All of our cleanups require volunteers to fill out a waiver form in order to participate and are encouraged to bring reusable water bottle, gardening gloves and a bucket!

Butterfly Jungle

Feast your eyes on Butterfly Jungle at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Experience this spectacular event with your family and friends and be surrounded by these winged wonderful insects. The event will be from March 11 to April 23. Make sure to wear bright colors, they may just perch on you to take a closer look!

Each spring the Safari Park’s Hidden Jungle exhibit is filled with amazing and delightful exotic butterflies of all colors and sizes, and guests can walk among them, take photos, and enjoy pointing out different species using our butterfly identification guide. There’s something for everyone, from fun kids’ activities to special presentations to fascinating facts about these wonderful winged insects. This joyful springtime experience is one you won’t want to miss.

Redwood Grove Loop Walk

redwoodAre you in for a fun and informative activity? Join the Redwood Grove Loop Walk, a guided half-mile stroll through a magnificent old-growth redwood forest.  Saturdays and Sundays at 1 pm.

How do these grand redwoods grow to be so old? So tall? How are they important to humans? Meet the famous Mother Tree, the Father of the Forest and the incredible Chimney Tree on this 90-minute walk. Stroller and wheelchair accessible. Meet at Park Headquarters, located 9 miles north of Boulder Creek on Highway 236. Event is free; vehicle day-use fee is $10. Event made possible by Mountain Parks Foundation, California State Parks volunteers, and California State Parks.

Leader-Daughter Let’s Cook Out & Let’s Tent Training Weekend BALBOA

girl-scoutThe  Girl Scouts San Diego will be having a Leader-Daughter Let’s Cook Out & Let’s Tent Training Weekend on January 20-22. Discover and empower your troop with fun outdoor cooking methods and create tasty meals to share.  Explore tent camping and learn more about safety issues, environmental considerations, and proper equipment.

A troop leader and their 1st grade Daisy-Cadette daughter can learn useful tools, skills and strategies to take back to their troop. This course combines our Let’s Cook Out and Let’s Tent courses so that the daughter can learn alongside the troop leader while meeting the training requirements for Outdoor Series.

This fun two-night training comes complete with all Saturday meals and a delicious Sunday breakfast; as well as a campfire program and cool nighttime activities.
