As the first and largest black film festival of the year, numerous other film festival reps scout new films from them for their event. Simply put, each year the San Diego Black Film Festival will premiere a large percentage of the independent films that will prove successful throughout the year at other film festivals.

This free, distinctly California celebration features boats decorated for the annual holiday season that will sail around Mission Bay.

The boat parade begins at 6:00 PM from Quivira Basin. Best viewing is from Crown Point, the east side of Vacation Island or the west side of Fiesta Island.

The 100-mile course for Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast starts at the Oceanside Pier and goes north to Breakwater Way before beginning a southbound trip to Encinitas. The 100-mile course is two loops of the 50-mile course. For 100 mile riders at the end of the first loop there will be an aid station just south of the Oceanside Pier at the Strand and Seagaze.

Bike the Coast–Taste the Coast is a wonderful sports-and-culinary event drawing thousands of avid cyclists and foodies each year.

Kaiser Permanente Thrive Half Marathon and 5K

Kaiser Permanente Thrive Half Marathon and 5k is up! Come to Ski beach Park on October 29, 2017 and be part of San Diego’s newest point to point marathon that starts at the brand new Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center and finishes at the Vacation Isle in the heart of Mission Bay. Help us encourage the San Diego community to “Thrive” together and Stay Active, Eat Healthy, Live Well, and Give Back! This event is for all ages. Register now!

The biggest hills of the race occur just past the 2nd-mile marker, a downhill stretch along Murphy Canyon Road. Once you make the turn around the southern end of the stadium, the course is largely flat and fast from then all the way into the finish line, along mostly long straightaway stretches, especially in the race’s second half.

Organizers note that the race is designed to promote healthy living and an active lifestyle, and proceeds from the event will go to benefit Make-a-Wish San Diego.

MCRD San Diego Bootcamp Challenge

BootCamp Challenge is a 5k/Obstacle Course race held at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego. First started in 2002, BootCamp Challenge was created to be a way to open the doors to the community surrounding MCRD and gives them an opportunity to take part in an exciting event rich with Marine Corps tradition. BootCamp Challenge has become a staple not only aboard MCRD, but also in the community, with participants coming from not only the local area, but across the U.S. and the world.

All of the proceeds from BootCamp Challenge go to Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), which supports Marines and their families by providing morale, welfare, and recreational programming.

The IRONMAN 70.3 SUPERFROG, in Coronado, California, is part of triathlon’s rich Navy Seal history, a spectacular race set in one of the hotbeds of the sport.

IRONMAN 70.3 SUPERFROG will begin with a two-loop 1.2-mile swim in the open Pacific Ocean. Athletes will then embark on a four-loop, 56-mile bike course that travels along scenic Highway 75. The course is flat and fast and features beautiful ocean views. The two-loop, 13.1-mile run offers mixed terrain, including sand, trails, and pavement. The course takes athletes up and down the California coastline and through the Silver Strand Training Complex/Naval Special Warfare Advanced Training Command.
