The Fair is the largest event in San Diego County to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year. Last year, over 25,000 people joined in the annual celebration. There were over 50 food and commercial booths with continuous live performances on stage, lion and dragon dancers, an Asian Story Theater, cultural displays, and educational crafts at the children area.

The 100-mile course for Bike the Coast – Taste the Coast starts at the Oceanside Pier and goes north to Breakwater Way before beginning a southbound trip to Encinitas. The 100-mile course is two loops of the 50-mile course. For 100 mile riders at the end of the first loop there will be an aid station just south of the Oceanside Pier at the Strand and Seagaze.

Kaiser Permanente Thrive Half Marathon and 5K

Kaiser Permanente Thrive Half Marathon and 5k is up! Come to Ski beach Park on October 29, 2017 and be part of San Diego’s newest point to point marathon that starts at the brand new Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center and finishes at the Vacation Isle in the heart of Mission Bay. The biggest hills of the race occur just past the 2nd-mile marker, a downhill stretch along Murphy Canyon Road. Once you make the turn around the southern end of the stadium, the course is largely flat and fast from then all the way into the finish line, along mostly long straightaway stretches, especially in the race’s second half.

Organizers note that the race is designed to promote healthy living and an active lifestyle, and proceeds from the event will go to benefit Make-a-Wish San Diego.

MCRD San Diego Bootcamp Challenge

The MCRD Bootcamp Challenge features obstacles used only by Marine Recruits plus over 60 USMC Drill Instructors providing direction and encouragement. BootCamp Challenge is a 5k/Obstacle Course race held at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego. First started in 2002, BootCamp Challenge was created to be a way to open the doors to the community surrounding MCRD and gives them an opportunity to take part in an exciting event rich with Marine Corps tradition. BootCamp Challenge has become a staple not only aboard MCRD, but also in the community, with participants coming from not only the local area, but across the U.S. and the world.

All of the proceeds from BootCamp Challenge go to Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS), which supports Marines and their families by providing morale, welfare, and recreational programming.
